For coffee and a compact stop: Junction Place

The former station and rail-yard precinct around Elgin Boulevard is an easy place to begin a short visit. Choose a café or restaurant that is open when you arrive, then use the surrounding central streets for a walk.

Allow around 35–45 minutes for a simple food stop and longer for a sit-down meal. If you are combining it with Hyphen, check the gallery’s hours first and decide which stop needs to come earlier. The historic station here is not Wodonga’s current passenger station.

BeanStation Café occupies the historic Wodonga Railway Station at Junction Place, on Elgin Boulevard. It is a practical starting point for coffee, breakfast or lunch before a central walk. Check its current menu and service times with the café.

For a flexible lunch: the city centre

High Street and the nearby central blocks work well when lunch needs to fit between shopping, appointments or a family visit. Park once where permitted, check the time limit and keep the route compact.

For a picnic at Belvoir or Lake Hume, buy supplies before leaving town. Don’t assume a reserve has a café, or that a barbecue will be available. A ready-to-eat lunch keeps the next stop flexible.

For food with a separate outing: Gateway Village

Gateway Village sits on Lincoln Causeway near the Murray, away from the CBD. Its galleries and food options can be the focus of a half-day visit, especially when paired with a walk around the area.

Choose the venue first and verify opening hours. Markets and special events follow their own schedules; this guide does not assume one will be running. If you add the 5.1 km Crossing Place Trail, allow separate walking time and read the on-site interpretation.

La Maison Restaurant at 40 Lincoln Causeway is an option for a longer sit-down meal at the old Customs House. Plan it as part of a separate Gateway outing and check the restaurant’s current bookings rather than expecting a quick takeaway stop.

For an evening: stay close to your dinner plan

If dinner is the reason to stay overnight, compare the location of your accommodation with the venue before booking. A ‘Wodonga’ address does not necessarily mean an easy walk to Junction Place.

Casa 1872 Italian Ristorante at 86A High Street is a central option for a planned Italian dinner, including wood-fired pizza. Check current table availability, menus and dietary needs directly. This is a dinner suggestion, not a promise of lunch service.
